  WHAT ABOUT PARKING TICKETS?


Yes, Parking Tickets are necessary to encourage compliance with local ordinances. Certain areas, have parking restrictions such as 15 minutes to 2 hours. Meters must be used Monday through Wednesday and Saturday 9am-6pm, Thursday and Friday 9am-9pm. There is free parking in designated lots within the business district. At times, someone may call the Police Department and complain about the length of time a car has been parked in a spot. Other times, an officer may be driving, walking or bicycling in the area and take notice to cars that are parked for a long time in a limited time space. You can pay parking tickets directly at the Police Department, by mail, or by dropping it off at the Borough Office. Most parking tickets are $10.00 unless you happen to park illegally in a handicap parking space. If you do not pay your parking ticket within the requested time frame, you could be issued a citation which will increase the amount of your ticket. If you were issued a parking ticket and wish to dispute it, you must request a hearing before the district justice.
• Parking on private property is prohibited – generally the owner of the property or business will call us and request the cars be ticketed.
• When parking your vehicle, the vehicle must be facing the same as traffic flow. If you park your car facing oncoming traffic, you will receive a ticket.
• Parking in a handicap space – you must have either a license plate with a handicap designation or a placard on your rearview mirror.
 • No, the police officer cannot see it on your floor, on your seat, or in your glove compartment.

WHERE DO I PAY FOR CITATIONS?
Citations – Traffic and Non-Traffic Must be paid at District Court 15-3-05 located at 305 South Third Street. .

  WHEN MUST I STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS? 

When the buses red lights are activating and the flashing stop sign is visible, regardless of the direction you are traveling.

You are following a school bus on a one-way, two lane or multi-lane roadway;

You are approaching from the opposite direction on a two-lane or multi-lane roadway;

At an intersection - must stop in all directions.

Penalty for passing a stoped school bus with red lights flashing is:
     Five points on your driver's license
     $100.00 fine
     60-day drivers license suspension


     MUST WE OBEY CROSSING GUARDS?

Yes, most definitely, all motorists and pedestrians are required to obey the guards.  Section 1126 of the Borough Code of Pennsylvania allows school districts to request that borough council appoint crossing guards to assure that students can safely cross designated streets within the Borough. Crossing guards have the responsibility to safely direct traffic.  The Oxford Area School District and the Borough of Oxford have such an agreement.  Cross guards are identified by suitable and distinctive uniforms and are sworn employees of the Borough.  While on duty the guards are under and subject to the direction of the Mayor and serve at the pleasure of Borough Council.  The Borough and the School District share equally in the crossing guard’s compensation.  Any one not obeying or interfering with the duties of crossing guards is subject to fines and arrest.
